holy shit... my friend/idol/inspiration while in my high school rowing club is going to the Olympics!!!!
I've been meaning to look and see if my old rowing "coach" (she was more a mentor to the girls teams) was going for the lightweight 2x and found my dearest Kate. I was good friends with her younger sister when I was a senior and she was a freshman. Kate was a senior when I was a sophomore and was THE GIRL to look up to with her strength, determination and motivation. She went out SO hard for a rowing piece on the machine one time trial that she broke her own record and expelled ALL of her energy to the point where she lost the ability to hold in some bodily fluids... gross... yes, fucking incredible that she could push herself to that level, you better fucking believe it! I haven't talked to Kate since the year after she graduated but I'm super proud nonetheless and talk about a motiving factor to get my own ass back into gear and strive for my dreams of rowing glory. W/ the Olympics this year it's already sparked that glisten in my eye but knowing Kate is going and has worked so hard makes me want to kick my ass into gear.
So kids... watching the US Woman's 8 at the Olympics in Athens this month and cheer on kate!!! I may not have talked to her in a while but god damn i'm proud of her! she deserves this more then anyone else i know... this means I need to go to our ORU reunion christmas dinner this year :)
Holy crap!!! I just checked the full US representation and my old coach is going!!! AAAAAHHHH Go Lisa Schlenker and Kate Johnson!!!
