This really pushes my gender politics button:
http://www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/female_auto_designers_9077.asp Apparently Lincoln is making a big deal of hiring female car designers, calling it "auto chick power". I fail to see what being a woman has to do with designing a better car. When other car companies announced they were designing vehicles for overweight Americans they didn't say "Hey! Look at us! Our designers are FAT!"
What's more, it appears these up and coming female designers were only asked to provide finishing touches for the concept car they were hired to work on. Things like hand-knotted banana silk rugs, and dimpled chrome accents. I'd like to know what was said in the Lincoln board room when the decision was made to appear more female-friendly. Maybe something like "Women like make-up, right? Let's hire some chicks to put make-up on this car!"
Clap... clap... clap. Congratulations Lincoln. I think you've finally managed to catch up with 1970s.
