There are a holy helluva lot of things to talk about in this episode, but since I'm pretty sure everyone's got most of it covered, I really just want to talk about Bishop.
Holy. Fuck.
I'd always been of the impression that Bishop was sinister, but staging those kids' deaths so Aidan would kill Bernie? That is a whole new level of fuck.
At first, I was utterly shocked at the seemingly abrupt change in character. Bishop is cruel, yes, but I've always been able to excuse his cruelty because of that gentle insistence he seems to exude. This seemingly senseless murder left me feeling highly disappointed.
For about five seconds.
And then I couldn't stop grinning. Because Bishop, baby, darling, you are everything I'd ever imagined you would be. It all makes sense, lines up perfectly with my own canonical grasp of just how far Bishop will go to get what he wants.
Humans mean nothing to him. There wasn't a single strain on his conscious about ordering Marcus to slit those two kids' throats.
Other vampires mean very little to him, too; they're strangers, and if they threaten the stability of his family, they're just objects to skirt around or bulldoze over.
That he knows Aidan well enough to pull just the right strings that would force Aidan to kill Bernie in the end... oh, that just makes me shudder all over.
I still don't consider him evil -- despite his disregard for human life, and the fact that his influence killed children -- but I'm glad the show decided to give us a snippet of something that would flaunt how clever he is.
Is anyone else besides me craving a Bishop&Bernie father-fic? The whole episode, I was waiting for Bishop to take Bernie away from Aidan, to step in and sort of rub it in Aidan's face that he has no idea what he's doing.
Or at the end, when Josh was all, "I'll be in my room." And my mind instantly provided, "if you want to cuddle."
And what if Aidan is so shook up he goes to Bishop to do something stupid, like apologize (he feels obligated, and he needs to do something to get all that guilt off of his chest), and Bishop comforts him?
Godfuck, an explosion of fanfic. x_x
Two Questions:
1. How excited are you for next week's episode?
2. Does this new development change how you write Bishop in any way?
