Ruki stared at himself in the mirror after he got out of the shower. Looking at his face and body as his hands stretched the skin. It didn’t matter what anyone said-the doctor or his brother-he always did this. Always had to double check to see if his skin looked sickly at any part. If he had those red spots. He was terrified that maybe the tests were wrong.
Sighing as he let his hands drop. Turning and looking at his back.
“You aren’t getting sick again.”
Looking to his brother as Yoshiki leaned against the doorway. Experiencing déjà vu as he shrugged his shoulders.
“Sakai told me that you asked him to run tests to see if you were getting sick again.” Yoshiki said, “All tests were negative. So why are you doing your tests?”
“Habit.” Ruki said.
“But you aren’t sick.” Yoshiki said, “Stop dreading it. Nothing is wrong with you-”
“I think there is though.” Ruki said, “It’s just a feeling…I’ve had it ever since-well…I got back from Aoi and Uruha’s.”
Yoshiki frowned as he let his brother leave the bathroom.
“What kind of feeling?” Yoshiki asked.
“That they did something to me.” Ruki said, “That I am going to get sick again because of whatever they did.”
“You won’t though Taka.” Yoshiki said, as Ruki got dressed, “Look at me.”
The brunette stared at his brother over his shoulder.
“I know I won’t but it is a fear I have.” Ruki said, “I will always have that fear Yoshiki.”
“I have it too.” Yoshiki told him, “Takanori, I watched you for years…getting sicker and more frail. To the point where you couldn’t even lift your arm…I remember feeding you every single day. Toshi biting me was a blessing because I could turn you. I never thought you’d be able to get into a relationship. Have your first kiss…none of that. And I keep thinking-what if it comes back. What if I have to watch you go through that again but seeing you lose everything that you’ve gained for yourself the last few years. But then I realize that it cannot happen.”
Ruki sat down for a moment on his bed.
“I just want to figure out a way to make myself not panic about this.”
“Talk to Reita and myself…talk to Toshi. Just talk to us and get your mind off of it.”
“Talking just makes me think of it more.” Ruki admitted.
Standing up and going to the window as he looked out.
“It’s going to rain.” Ruki muttered, shaking his head.
“Do you want to open the presents you got for your birthday? We never did get around to that.”
“No thanks.” Ruki said, looking to Yoshiki, “Aoi and Uruha would let Reita sleep with them. They were pissed at me for taking him away-Aoi said that he and Reita shared everything.”
“Taka-”
“Nothing happened but it makes me wonder-how many partners Reita had-what he did while he was with Aoi and Uruha. He’s my Mate and I really don’t know much about him.”
“Then ask him about it.” Yoshiki said.
“No I get that I just-I don’t know.” Ruki said, “I slept with him in under a week.”
Yoshiki frowned as he looked at his brother.
“I slept with Toshi the night I met him. All I knew was what he looked like. You knew a bit more about Reita.”
“I don’t want to be hurt.” Ruki said softly, “I was hurt enough when I was younger…I don’t want it to happen again.”
“I don’t think Reita will hurt you if it’s any help.”
“I know he won’t I just-I worry that I’ll hurt him and then he’ll hurt me. It’s always so fucking vicious.”
“You won’t.” Yoshiki said, pulling Ruki to him.
Hugging the male as he rested his head on Ruki’s.
“Little brother, you’re always worrying about things that you shouldn’t. Let whatever happen happen.”
“I worry about things that are very real possibilities.”
Yoshiki hugged Ruki tighter as the brunette burrowed into his brother’s arms.
“I’m sorry.” Ruki said, “I’m just-”
“Don’t apologize for how you feel.”
“I just-I hate that I feel like this all the time. I hate that I’m not a normal wolf. That I have to eat every few hours. That I can’t eat meat…I hate being a freak in my own skin.”
“You aren’t a freak-”
“I am!” Ruki exclaimed, backing up, “It isn’t normal to not be able to eat meat. It isn’t normal for a wolf to not eat meat-to have to eat at least every three hours. I’m entirely not normal. It sucks but it’s true.”
“Taka-”
“And I know the others think so-Miyavi used to say it all the time. So do Kyo and Ruka…And I believe them because it’s true.”
“You’re not normal…that’s true.” Yoshiki said, “But you aren’t a freak.”
“Aoi said Reita deserved better than me. And maybe he’s right. Reita shouldn’t have to be with someone that’s weak-that can’t take care of themselves.”
“You aren’t weak. Taka, you’ve been through so much.” Yoshiki said, “You’re stronger than you think I promise.”
“That doesn’t matter.” Ruki said, “I just-”
“Stop thinking so low about yourself.” Yoshiki said fiercely, “You’re amazing Ruki. You’ll see that one day.”
Ruki nodded his head slowly as he sat down. Rubbing his face as the door opened.
“Am I interrupting something?” Reita asked.
“Nothing.” Ruki said, “How are you?”
“I’m doing alright.” Reita said, “I was worried about you though. Been up here all day long. I thought we could go get something to eat.”
“Like a date?” Ruki asked.
“Exactly like a date.” Reita smiled, as he kneeled down in front of Ruki, “So do you want to go with me?”
“I’d like that a lot.” Ruki said.
“I would too.” Reita said, “I’d like to get to know my mate a bit better.”
Ruki smiled back at Reita as Yoshiki stood up and left them.
“How much did you hear?”
“A lot of it.”
“Reita-”
“And you’re right we do need to know each other better. But you’re wrong that you think you’re weak. You aren’t weak Ruki. You couldn’t have gone through half of the shit you’ve been through if you were weak.”
The brunette just stared at him.
“Then why don’t I believe that?”
“I don’t know.” Reita said, “But I’ll make you believe that.”
“Reita-”
“My real name is Akira Suzuki. Reita’s my pack name.” the blonde said, “I like kit kat’s and a good roast. I like to make jokes in tense situations because I hate those kinds of situations.”
“My real name is Takanori Matsumoto.”
Reita grinned at him.
“See already getting to know one another better.”
Ruki shook his head slowly.
“You’re ridiculous.”
“I know but I also know that I’m about ninety-eight percent in love with you.”
“And the other two percent?”
“Well I have to get to know you first.”
Ruki laughed softly as Reita kissed him.
The brunette groaning softly as he held the blonde’s face. Getting closer to him until Reita pulled him into the male’s lap. Holding his hips as they both let out a soft groan.
Ruki felt his wolf wake up with a growl. Wanting more of Reita as they clawed at one another’s clothes.
“Hey guys-”
Ruka started laughing, “Sorry totally didn’t know you two were about to do the deed.”
Ruki and Reita staring at them as they pulled apart slowly.
Standing up and walking out as they decided as one to go on the date.
