2) Some Canon Stuff

Actual Canon: So Dante's canon is full of plot holes and likes to re-write itself as it goes. But this is a mixture of his canon as taken from game 3 and the manga.

Once the human world (the world of light) and the demon world (the world of dark) where not separated, and the demons used their superior strength to rape, enslave and slaughter humanity. Eventually one particularly powerful demon knight, going by the name of Sparda, took pity on humanity. He beats up Mundus, the 'Prince of Darkness/Hell' and sacrificed a human priestess and his own power and sword to seal a tower called Temen-ni-gru into the earth. Temen-ni-gru was the bridge between the two worlds, basically 'the gates of hell'. After that Sparda's powers were significantly less, but there world was... mostly saved. There were still demons around that needed to be killed. One assumes Sparda went on to kill the remaining demons.

Two thousand years pass and Sparda's name becomes merely a legend. Meanwhile Sparda himself sits down with a woman named Eva and makes himself a family. He has twin sons named Vergil and Dante.

The impression given is that Dante and Vergil never knew Sparda personally, but they do carry relics of his (the main swords that Dante and Vergil use previously belonged to their dad) and they know they are his son, they know they are half-demons, they know his story. But if they ever knew him in person, it was probably when they were very young.

When Dante is somewhere around thirteen or so, Mundus succeeds in sending some powerful demons to the human world to attack Sparda or kill Eva. The actual goal of the demons is unclear... and so is what they did. We do know the demons killed Eva, right in front of a helpless Dante's eyes. Meanwhile, Sparda is often hinted at being dead in canon, I don't believe it ever says outright that he is dead. I personally believe he has wandered off to be all mysterious and whatnot.

Anyway, Vergil and Dante were separated in the attack, and likely both assumed each other were dead. At least, Dante thought Vergil was dead. He runs into him a few years later when they are both seventeen, while Vergil is researching their daddy's power, and Vergil tries to take Dante's amulet from him.

The amulet is a red stone, split in half. The stone was originally a gift to humanity and it ended up passed down to Eva (I believe), Eva in turn broke it and gave one half to each of her sons. This stone, when complete, is the key to the gates of hell (along with other things like a priestess's blood and Sparda's blood). Vergil wants it back not so much to open the gates of hell, but because he wants his father's power which is sealing it shut.

Blahblah, they fight, at that time Vergil doesn't get Dante's amulet.

We don't know what happens then CAUSE THE MANGA ISN'T FINISHED. We do know Dante hangs around doing his demon killing thing until Vergil arrives again, a year later, and Temen-ni-gru rises out of the ground right in his front yard.

Throughout the course of the game, Dante is pretty uncaring as to what is going on. There is this chick named Lady, and she's hot, but also kinda a bitch. And there is some other guy (Lady's dad) that Dante isn't interested in. He pretty much scales the tower and kills a lot of demons just to face Vergil. Not to kill him, mind, just to fight him.

Dante loses the first fight, Vergil stabs him in the chest twice and takes his amulet. This is important because it REALLY PISSES DANTE OFF and allows him to tap into his demonic blood. Until this point, while Dante is very badass, he couldn't control any of the power his dad left behind for him. But now 'devil mode' is awaked and with a simple L1 Dante turns into a full fledged demon for a few seconds, which lets him do cool things like run really fast, fly, shoot energy at you, etc.

Blahblah, more filler, Dante is a dick to Lady. Vergil and Dante fight again, and in the middle of their fight Arkham (Lady's dad) interrupts and punts Lady, Vergil AND Dante off the stage. He takes Sparda's power for himself.

Everyone, of course, goes back up the tower to get at Arkham now.

Lady and Dante fight, because suddenly Dante wants to be involved, suddenly it's his business. And of course Dante wins, but he promises to kill Arkham for her. How sweet is that?

Dante fights Arkham (who turns into a tentacle monster!) and then halfway through the fight Vergil joins in. There is some great interaction between them that makes it obvious that they hate each other like brothers do... which is to say they still like each other better than most everyone else. And then when Arkham dies, Vergil and Dante face off again.

There is some great stuff... Dante talks about sharing his father's 'soul' and how he has to do what it tells him to, even if it means killing Vergil. In the end Dante DOESN'T kill Vergil, but he does defeat him. Vergil chooses to fall back into the demon world "their father's home" and take his half of the amulet with him. Dante take their father's sword and his own half of the amulet and goes back up top, and sheds one whole tear for his 'dead' brother. Then he goes back to kicking demon ass, cause it's what he does.

What Audience/Otaku Characters Can Mention To Her: Anything. Dante's 'big' secrets aren't very secret.

3) The Fight Meme

Abilities? A... lot. Dante comes from the kind of game where the point is to kick everything's ass and make it look easy, and I play him from the end of that game, so he's pretty damn badass. He has five DevilArms: Rebellion, a broad sword left by his father; Cerebus, the soul of the demon Cerebus, looks like three nunchuku, ice element; Angi and Rudra, two living sabers, one with wind element and one with fire, use them together to make a flaming tornado etc; Nevan, a vampire/succubus who turned into a guitar when Dante killed her, lightning element, strum to summon magical lightning bats; Beowulf, a demon who really hated Sparda that Dante beat, Vergil killed and who Dante stole from his brother after Vergil fell off the tower, energy element.

Then he has several guns: Ebony and Ivory are semi-automatic hand guns, VERY LARGE; a shot gun; Artemis, a weapon which draws demonic energy out of the user and shoots heat seeking lasers (Dante gave this away to Nishi a while ago); Spiral, a high powered armor piercing rifle. He used to have the Kalina-Ann, but Lady took it back.

And then Dante has all of his demonic abilities! He can run up walls, he can 'air hike' which means he can jump once, then again in midair, he has to be shot roughly five hundred times to kill him, he can be stabbed in the chest with a giant sword and only take moderate damage! He can do things like block energy attacks and send them back to you (Royal Guard) or he can charge up his guns for even bigger/faster/neater attacks (Gunslinger) or he can dash or flicker out of existence and reappear behind you (Trickster) or he can charge up his Devil Arms for cool attack (Sword Master or whatever it's called).

And then for short periods of time Dante can use up his devil gage, which builds as he takes/delivers damage/has UST. The Devil gage allows him to turn INTO a demon, which makes stuff hurt him even less, makes his attacks hurt a lot more, makes him faster, stronger and lets him regenerate at a decent clip. He can also fly and do various cool attacks like summon lightning bolts on your ass. The Devil Gage can also be used to temporarily slow time by a lot, in the event that he's fighting someone even faster than him, or to summon a second Dante which will mimic his movements, or... I think I'm forgetting one.

BASICALLY Dante has a lot of options open to him in any given fight.

Canon? Top~ It's his game, afterall. The only people comparable in power to Dante are Vergil and Arkham when infused with Sparda's power. Vergil and Dante join up to kill Arkham together, but that doesn't really mean Dante couldn't handle it alone, but it would be a close battle, so I would say they are all on the same level. Similarly, while Dante beat Vergil, it's not like he completely trashed him. It was a hard fight and Dante won, and while Dante operates under the impression that he could do it again, that doesn't mean Vergil wouldn't stand a chance.

Camp? Pretty damn high. I would say in terms of outright power, he's a good deal below Vash, but in sheer ability and willingness to fuck shit up? There aren't a lot of people in camp that could beat Dante one on one. Unlike Lina and Vash, Dante doesn't have any MEGA DESTRUCTION abilities that could take out the entire camp. But he has one of the most insane defenses in camp. Which is to say. SURE maybe you CAN shoot him in the head with your ultra destructive whatever. But if that only takes off a tenth of Dante's HP and he just gets back up and grins, at you, what's it matter? I would say that while Dante might not be able to kill everyone in camp, there are also very, very few people that could kill him.

Psychics? Knock yourself out. Dante's mind is kinda dark and kinda bitchy and he doesn't think about sex QUITE as much as he lets on, which means he still thinks about it a helluva lot.

Permissions? If you want to attack Dante in any way, shape or form, feel free. Hell, you can sneak up behind him and put a bullet in the back of his head, I won't mind. Understand you won't do any significant, lasting damage on him unless your using something like Sanzo's sutra. Something that exists to kill demons. If you use a really powerful spiritual based attack, it'll hurt him more, but he's not especially weak to energy/spiritual attacks. And if you want to fight him for REAL I'm okay with it. But if you aren't familiar with his canon you might want to watch these three videos to get a general idea of how Dante fights/moves/takes damage.

4) Quick List of Friends and Foes

Vergil is both a friend and a foe. Which is to say, only Dante gets to kill him. If the camp decides to try to kill Vergil and Dante thinks they might succeed, he'll step in and help his brother out.

Otherwise, Lady, Snake and Otacon are foremost on the list of people Dante will fuck your shit up if you mess with. He will defend humans in general if they can't do it themselves. And he's also fond of Buffy, Nishi and Sousuke but won't typically involve himself in their causes without a reason.

No real foes.

5) Other

Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/spit at/step on/etc?

For shape shifting and bodyswapping, ask. For the rest, go for it.

Maim/Murder/Death?

Maim? Go for it. Murder... Dante typically won't kill a human without a good reason. A demon he would, sure. Though if you were a really human-like demon, such as Yuusuke, he wouldn't really want to. Death? Probably not. I don't mind him dying but it's more a matter of if it could happen.

Kissing/Hugging/Walling/Grinding?

By all means

Cooking?

...now you know why he lives with Snake.
