The holidays?

Nov 11, 2008 22:34

I’m actually looking forward to them. I can’t really put my finger on why, especially since one of my favorite parts of the holidays, baking, will be nigh to impossible this year. The bottom element on my ancient stove quit sometime earlier this year, and I have no clue when I will be able to replace it. I do what I can in my microwave, which also ( Read more... )

Oh I can't wait for Xmas this year!! I've already started watching my Rankin/Bass holiday cartoons. Halloween was the first holiday that Lyta was really aware of..trick or treating, dressing up, carving pumpkins, etc. So Xmas should be tons of fun this year. I'm having a hard time right now getting her into it though. She pitches a fit if I try to watch any kind of xmas cartoon when she's around. Then again, she's going through this weird stage right now. I figure once I get some of the decor up and what not she'll get into it more. I plan on decorating after we get back home from Thanksgiving with the folks. It's so funny cause now that we have a little one we've started decorating the yard some too. For Halloween we had one of those inflatable ghosts sticking up out of a pumpkin. For Xmas we'll probably get something of the like too.

Sorry this is so disjointed..I just woke up. lol

Heh, you are ahead of me! I haven't started watching any holiday-themed specials, movies, or cartoons yet. But I am getting pretty excited about decorating and shopping!

I have a blog friend whose three year old isn't ready for Christmas-y stuff yet, either. It's funny!

I don't decorate my yard or anything, but I try to make it so the lights show through the front windows!

I already have a closet full of wrapped xams presents (I collect things during the year that I find that are "Just Perfect...")
And here's a solution to your baking problem: Candy coated pretzels! i just started making them and they are YUM!
Melt chocolate in your microwave (on medium or defrost setiing, takes 1-3 minutes). Dip pretzel (or licorice) and then roll or sprinkle on the candies! I like crushed heath bar (find in baking aisle)and white chocolate or dark choc, they also have colorful peppermint flavor. Let me know if you have made these before!

Those do sound yummy! And I've never made them before. I could do stuff like that, and chocolate covered peanut butter crackers & cookies & such. I hadn't really thought of that.

I have a bin full of gifty items as well, but they aren't wrapped yet. And I have yet to decide who gets what, out of the stuff I didn't pick out for anyone in particular.

Have you ever looked into getting a toaster oven? They are rather tiny, so they won't be great for huge bake offs and you might have to buy a few pans that will fit in it, but they are rather inexpensive and definitely a step up from a microwave ( ... )

I actually have...just haven't really been able to spare the cash for a new one just yet. And haven't seen one in a thrift store that I thought I could clean up and use. I think I have figured out how to make baked goods in my microwave...if so? I won't even need a toaster oven ( ... )
