ARG, so glad you posted this. My DVR had a senior moment and decided not to record last night...catching the re-run on Friday...WHEN I'LL HAVE GUESTS IN TOWN, crap. I can't see it until next week. *cries*
But when I do, I'll let you know if I'm still on board with your Hastings theory. ;)
Oh, my show is back! What a freaking episode, I loved it. Hastings is totally...wow. I mean, the scene where he asks BJ if he's a virgin? Smoldering, right? And then the overprotectiveness on the field, the ridiculing him behind his back...I don't know. On one hand, I think maybe he's Riggins 2.0. On the other, I don't think the FNL writers would take that easy of a route. Tossing the phone # was definitely odd. Kind of like he knows all the right behaviors, but doesn't buy into them.
And then there's BJ. What kind of pick-up line is "I like the way you're putting on your lipstick, it looks like a commercial"? Then he's making out with the lady, but it doesn't really seem that hot & heavy. The bus ride home, when he's looking at the lipstick? Looked to me like he was more interested in the lipstick than the lady. I just don't know! *chews fingernails off*
I'm guessing they'll back off this storyline for at least one episode, so probably no more clues this week.
the gist of it - I agree both those scenes ping the "acting hetero but all mouth and no trousers" angle for Hastings; but then in the campfire scene he appears to be snogging some babe in the background while Luke waxes lyrical, which, while not implausible, is a bit unlikely if this is working up to be a gay character reveal...
Either way, Mr Ruckle is growing on me (as is Buddy Jr, bless; and I love how his dad is coaxing him along, ah, Buddy, you are rather lovely as a devoted dad)
No no - buddy jr gets straddled and kissed and groped by lipstick woman, but in the nearer background, Hastings is kissing a girl who then breaks off and walks to the back of the set....
Oh, to me it looked like they were talking, like she was whispering something in his ear, because she's in such an awkward position to be kissing somebody for more than a second.
