[Nero felt stupid talking into a book but, fuck it, this thing had kept him up with all its useless noise. Least he could do was get something out of it and then go back to ignoring its existence.]
Whatever. Anyone know where a guy can get some headphones?
Not as interesting as it sounds, believe me. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time when I got caught in a choke-hold and they became my new, plastic collar.
Now I'm looking for a new pair but I'm getting the feeling this place isn't technologically friendly.
I hear you--who wouldn't want to drown out this picture-perfect cow town now and again?
Gotta say though, I couldn't tell you the first place to look. "Backwards" doesn't even begin to cover this pla--
[zing!]
--hold on.
[Enter scrambling sounds, book dropping, shuffling sounds, weapon clatter, muttered cursing, and general slinging-around of stuff out of a duffel bag.]
[He looked them over, not that he would say no no matter what he found. Headphones were headphones...who the fuck looked a gift horse in the mouth because of the price tag?]
Yeah, they'll do. I'm not a classy guy so they'll suit me just fine.
[He paused a bit, curious.]
Still, you have them for a reason. Sure you wanna part ways?
[Classy? Maybe not. But he's damned cute. She shrugs.]
Sure, reasons being a slightly smashed Discman that was only held together with a badass tape job, and no more CDs left to my name.
[rueful laugh] Malnosso caught me while I was leaving town in one hell of a hurry. Not much thought to livin' the good life when a girl's on the lam, y'know?
So no worries on my end. They're yours. 'Less you're big on rock or heavy metal. Then I might make an ass of myself begging to listen in once in a while.
[because if yes, you so have a new best friend]

[yay! Nero needs new friends of the female persuasion. Don't let his responses fool you...he's in denial.]

You sound busy...should I call back? I'll be here all week.

[scuffling noises, and then a brief reappearances of Faith's face]
Naw, babe, you can't do your curtain call yet, main event's still happening. I knew I had these somewhere!
[she shakes something at the book; lo and behold, dollar store earbuds]
Classy find, I know, I know. But 'less you come from Bizarroland Earth, no reason they won't do the job, yeah?

Guess some people can still surprise me.
