The Canberra Airport has long been a thorn in the Canberra taxi industry's side. I don't know how many cabs they think should be running around Canberra, but it is clearly never enough and they are always waxing lyrical about how Canberra needs more cabs.....it doesn't.
But an airport spokesperson came out with this nugget the other day.
The spokeswoman said Canberra Airport sought an increase in the number of Canberra taxi licences "so that local providers are able to meet demand from passengers at peak times, which is only going to increase with the introduction of direct international flights to and from Canberra Airport."

Since 2010, the number of passengere movements at Canberra Airport have dropped by 14 per cent, falling to about 2,858,000 in the past year.
and
Canberra Airport managing director Stephen Byron attributed the big drop to federal public service cuts under the former Labor government and the current Liberal government.

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/traffic-at-canberra-airport-down-for-the-fourth-year-in-a-row-20150117-12nb2w.html Here's a tip, Canberra Airport & Stephen Byron, you get these so called 'direct international flights' up and running, start increasing some pax numbers through your airport, and then how about we see how the taxi situation is? As it stands at the moment, the evidence is there to support the premise that your airport numbers clearly don't support the current taxi numbers in Canberra...and your numbers are falling every year.
What is putting more cabs on the road, now, going to achieve? You have no 'peak' times anymore. The pax numbers coming out of your airport today are so dire that there is always a queue of taxis waiting.
