DMC WikiAs a general note, my Dante’s history will be affected by/will include the first novel.
Personality: With the reputation of a ‘devil may care’ attitude and an exclusive clientele set, Dante is a man considered aloof, uncaring, and hard to impress. His skills are extraordinary though and it makes him a wanted mercenary to hire-that is, if it weren’t for the fact that his work included so much collateral damage that most clients aren’t even willing to consider him for a job. It’s a wonder Dante manages to keep paying the rent when he’s constantly handing out the money he earns to pay for the damage he causes.
That said Dante isn’t as callous as first appearances make him out to be. Even when close to the devil hunter it’s hard to tell, but the fact that Dante pays (willingly) for the collateral damage he inflicts is a testament to his closely guarded caring nature. He puts up only a half-hearted fight when it comes to arguing over expenses he owes people that do him favors and somehow always manages to be duped when it comes to helping out those in worse straights than him for little to no cost. It begs the question: is he really that stupid, or does he actually care that much beneath his cool exterior? The answer definitely lies closer to the latter. He is especially vulnerable to Trish’s wiles, and secretly has a soft spot for little kids (especially little girls [like Patti from the anime]).
Beyond these parameters, stick with the half-devil long enough and one will realize he isn’t just another tough guy that plays the cool, silent type-no, this tough guy likes to be the badass, over-talkative type. From the get-go Dante has always been a brash, cocky, showy sonovadevil that likes to taunt his foes and tease his enemies into a fluster. If it wasn’t apparent from the bright red outfit he wears, painting himself as the center of attention, the moment Dante opens his mouth to utter his first provocative words it is obvious the hunter likes to toy with his adversaries. His arrogance goes beyond the mundane and straight into the fantastical; he isn’t just confident in his abilities but provokes to make the task harder for him to complete and therefore more of a challenge. The truth is for all his arrogance he has every right to be cocky since his skills live up to the attitude. In the end he has to be put in his place by a sharper tongue of the female persuasion before his ego will deflate. He loves a good brawl, and enjoys a fun bit of flirting on the side. Problem there is he knows he’s damn handsome and will flaunt it. It gets him into more trouble than beds with his luck though.
Speaking of luck, Dante’s is of the more double-edged sword kind. While he always wins in the end to get there always seems to mean getting into more trouble than he anticipates in the first place. He has the best of luck when it comes to surviving and saving the day, but the worst when it comes to the small things like getting out of trouble, getting the girl, and gambling for money. He can gamble with his life and come out even every time but as soon as he puts money on the table he’s out in full.
Overall, Dante is much more than first impressions make him out to be. He is protective, kind, and compassionate beneath an aloofness that keeps him supposedly sheltered from the human way of life-but really just seems to emphasize how close to humanity he actually is. He has a headstrong stubbornness that gets in the way sometimes, but is truly dedicated to the things that really matter in life that balance this trait out. And in the end he is resolved to his unique life now that he’s had time to come to terms with who and what he is after confronting his father’s past and defeating Mundus to protect the human world. It’s not just about revenge for his family anymore-it’s about compassion and dedication to simply live his own life.
What your character can offer: Dante is a half-devil with extraordinary powers that come from his ‘blue blood’ heritage. The most obvious traits are supernatural strength, speed/agility, and endurance. He is stronger, faster, and more agile than any human has the right to be. His endurance levels ensure that he will outlast anyone else on an athletic binge while he’s at it. His demonic heritage also gives him longevity and a quicker healing rate than any normal human. Dante can sustain a large amount of damage before he is slowed down or fatally injured due to how quick he heals even on the fly. He also has a unique magical quality to him allowing him such feats as leaping extra heights, summoning his weapons to him by will power alone, and imbuing his weapons with demonic power to deal more damage. These are not the only feats he can accomplish but the most prominent. On top of that, with enough energy stored up over time and/or gained from a high-adrenaline battle Dante can induce a ‘Devil Trigger’ state that transforms him into a full devil. This increases all of his already ridiculous supernatural traits and makes him even harder to kill. Sometimes it even grants him the ability to fly with a set of demonic wings sprouting from his back.
Besides his mostly physical based strengths, Dante is also highly knowledgeable in all things demonic, devilish, occult, and supernatural. Despite his reputation of ignoring the intellectual route, he is familiar with referencing books on occasion though he won’t openly admit it or reveal it. He’s smarter than he seems and strategic when it counts. He’s dedicated and reliant also despite first impressions, and won’t back down from a challenge. He can be protective and caring when least expected.
What items will they be bringing with them? Alastor-- "Gives the possessor lightning speed and aerial capabilities." Alastor is a living Devil Arm, the Thunder Sword and "Spirit of Lightning." He can only be wielded by the "chosen one" who can conquer it. After surviving being impaled by the sword, Dante gained control of its powers and can now wield it expertly. More info
here.
Ifrit-- "A flaming gauntlet that gives the possessor increased powers." Ifrit is a living Devil Arm, the Flame Gauntlets with hellfire hotter than a volcano. He can only be wielded by one who can conquer him. After being shackled by the awakened gauntlets, Dante subdued them and gained access to their awesome strength. More info

Ebony & Ivory-- "Dante's hand-made guns." These guns were made specifically for Dante and his inhuman speed and skill. They fire magically imbued bullets to defeat even the toughest of demonic foes. Most of the time Dante can be seen firing Ebony with his left hand and Ivory with his right hand. The twin pistols were actually made for two different fighting styles: Ebony for accuracy, and Ivory for speed. ("Ebony, his left gun, has been modified for long-distance targeting. It is designed for comfort and accuracy." | "Ivory, his right gun, is custom built for rapid firing. Various parts are rounded to ensure fast draw times.") On their grips are portraits of Victorian women; as befits their names, Ebony's is dark-haired, and Ivory's is fair-haired. Oddly enough, he usually refers to the pair with the pronoun "boys" when directly addressing them. They are also engraved with a dedication to Dante, For Tony Redgrave/By .45 Art Warks, by Nell Goldstein who lovingly crafted the pistols for Dante without his knowledge. More info

Perfect Amulet-- "The combined form of Dante's pendant and Dark Knight's pendant. It allows entry into the Underworld." This pendant was originally given to Eva by the Dark Knight Sparda, who in turn gave the split halves to their twin sons Dante and Vergil on one of their birthdays. The amulet is a large red ruby-esque stone held in silver on one side and gold on the other. On the back of each piece is engraved the names of the twins. More info
here.
Bangle of Time-- "A mysterious wrist band that has the power to stop time." The Bangle of Time is a skeleton-motif bangle which allows Dante to stop time for nearby enemies by consuming his magical energy. (This is the same energy he uses to DT, and therefore cannot DT at the time he is using the Bangle.) More info

Third-Person Sample: Dante walked around the corner and stood with his huge sword slung casually over his shoulder. He adjusted his grip slightly as he smirked at the picture in front of him: your big, typical nasty with way too many limbs protruding from an ugly-as-sin body. He was entirely too used to this scene.
“Well, well, well. What have we got here? Looks like someone around here hit every damn branch down from the ugly tree.” Dante taunted with a simple hand gesture that encompassed the massive demonic foe.
“Cocky for an insect,” the demon replied before leaping forward in an attack.
Dante simply leapt out of the way. Hey, he wasn’t finished taunting if that was the lame reply! “Funny, you sound just like another ugly I fought. Wanna guess what happened to him?” he asked with a flourish of his sword. Okay, now he was ready to fight.
Dante quickly defeated the lowly demon, his agility and speed winning over the beast’s brute strength. As soon as the devil hunter found his foe’s weakness it was all a downhill battle from there. The red-dressed hunter was mildly disappointed, but he knew he had been going to win anyway. He was too confident in himself to think otherwise.
His prize was at the other side of the courtyard-yet another key to unlock yet another trick in yet another dungeon-esque setting. It was all simply becoming too familiar. He would have wondered when it ever would end-but then he knew the answer to that too: it wouldn’t. Not so long as the devil hunter was needed in the world, and he would always be needed in a world where demons and devils managed to find ways into the human world to continue their never-ending torment of humans. Dante would never quit fighting. It wasn’t in his blood.
First-Person Sample: [The camera turns on to the flash of red as something flutters out of sight as from a breeze. Then black leather fills the screen as it is picked up by a gloved hand. The picture shakes a little until finally it is steadied on a silver haired man. Nothing like the other silver haired men around Discedo, this one has short hair and bright blue eyes that stare accusingly down at the device from between the silvery bangs.]
Joke’s on me, I guess. I thought Mallet was messed up…
[His eyes narrow.] So what is this place? Ya wanna clear that up, jokster?
I don’t have time for this bullshit.
[The hand holding the communicator drops suddenly and a nice view of his tight fitting pants can be seen from too close as he clenches it at his side. A howl can be heard from not so far away. In another sudden movement Dante brings the camera back up to awkwardly focus on his hardened face. He taps on the screen with a finger of the opposite hand as if to get the viewer’s attention.]
Hey. I ain’t laughin’, ya got that?
[Then it’s dropped completely and the camera goes black as it lands on the lens. But things can still be heard-things like the sound of fighting. And Dante’s taunting.]
Yeah? Ya like that? Well come get some more!
