What luxury -- blogging from bed!

Mar 15, 2011 08:42

I suppose you devoted readers have seen my posts' "location" (filling in a space that LJ's format provides) fairly often given as "bed" or "waking up." That's usually a clue that I'm on my BlackBerry (with its evident limitations), but today -- taDAA! -- I'm on the laptop!

Actually, I awoke with the usual BB check-in to my overnight messages --since BB/Yahoo rolls out a convenient survey of responses to my comments on other people's LJs, replies on Flickrmail, and anything that comes to my Yahoo address. (Bear in mind that I'm no techie: such miracles dazzle me and make me feel I'm truly participating in the huge revolution that the young take for granted!!)

The laptop, with home's lovely wi-fi connections, gives me the "whole" Web experience, along with a lot more ability to type freely (unless you're a teenager, thumbs get you only so far!), cut/paste (do-able on BB, but no multiple screens), post my photos from Flickr (the "shrunk" version of Flickr on BB accesses individual Flickr members, but you cannot upload photos or play with URLs), etc.

There's a "sneakiness" factor, though. Joanne, my ultra-significant Other, hates me blogging; it's my private refuge, and she suspects (rightly) that I'm enjoying this tech-substitute for the intimacy she no longer enjoys providing. We have a don't-ask-don't-tell thing about it: I try NOT to flaunt my blogging (just as I don't conspicuously ogle pretty girls in bars) and she ignores minor signals that I have "other resources." (Since I am a news junkie, both BB and laptop COULD BE indulging me in that side of my personality -- a foible [yummy word!] she approves of.)

Ergo, though we often sleep in separate rooms nowadays (which I dislike), it's still awkward for her to pop into my bedroom with coffee and find me plinking away at the laptop. On the other hand, the BB is just me, indulging the news-junkie thing -- or, for her peace of mind, it could be!

So-o-o, since yesterday fternoon, she's off at our elderly friend's home, helping her cope with the revived cancer treatment; not to be snide, but "sitting up with a sick friend" -- which I sympathize with hugely.

And I can lay abed and blog to my heart's (and pussy's) content.
