This is one of Suzy's works that I especially admire: if I could re-create myself on SL, her sensitive, trusting character there would be the epitome of what I'd want to BE. (Bearing in mind that I have neither the tech skills nor the patience to learn them...)
Anyway, the subject of "butter" came up in the comments on this shot posted on Flickr. Free-associating like mad, I recalled (in a comment) Bertolucci's film with Marlon Brando, "Last Tango in Paris," where BUTTER was employed as a lube. A bold plot device -- and one some have never forgiven the director.
Curious, I googled butter, Bertolucci and Brando (not least because I'd thought the flick was that one called "4 and a Half Weeks," or something). Google turned up a terrific 2007 article on the refurbished film, with an interview with Brando's leading lady:
"...[Its] most famous scene involving [actress Maria] Schneider face down on the apartment floor while Brando applies butter to her nether regions and performs a sex act on her.
"'That scene wasn't in the original script. The truth is it was Marlon who came up with the idea,' she says.
"'They only told me about it before we had to film the scene and I was so angry... Marlon said to me: 'Maria, don't worry, it's just a movie,' but during the scene, even though what Marlon was doing wasn't real, I was crying real tears.
"'I felt humiliated and to be honest, I felt a little raped, both by Marlon and by Bertolucci. After the scene, Marlon didn't console me or apologise. Thankfully, there was just one take.'
"Many believed that the sex scenes between Brando and Schneider were for real, but she insists: 'Not at all. There was no attraction between us. For me, he was more like a father figure and I a daughter...'"
