FIXED IT!
As the two postings just now suggest, my laptop is fully functional again! Yay!
And I did it myself! I'm no techie, as most of you constant readers are all too aware. I cannot manage even some of the simpler tasks on the freaking computer. A new icon? Probably not; just too complicated! Linking up my new BBerry and the laptop? Ah, well, I ran the CD and it seems to be installed -- but I haven't ventured there to use it...
BUT, I sat down and somehow managed to run "system restore" -- and it worked! All the demons that invaded (a virus or a worm? Goddess only knows...) seem to be banished by going back to the August status quo. (The good thing is that I never fell for any of the blandishments tossed onto my screen by the invaders. Didn't click on anything I didn't recognize! I wasn't so clever last January when they attacked my earlier computer -- but perhaps that is what it takes to learn,,,)
