THE FOLLOWING IS MOSTLY GIBBEREISH, FILTERED (BARELY) THROUGH MY BEDSIDE BLACKBERRY! ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT SEEMED IMPORTANT ON AWAKENING, BUT...
I PROBABLY OUGHT TO DELETE IT.
*************
OMG it's 4-fucking-30 and I've just awoke out of a twisted -- but not unpleasant -- dream. (A non-wet one, unlike a few nights ago...) Anyway, it was about a bizarre giant "meme" (sorta the "DaVinci Code" for bloggers).
I recollect it was about a mysterious code-word (or maybe phrase?) that one accessed on-line, and that summoned up some capsule-experience. Needless to say -- I KNEW that particular word or phrase in the dream, and it was gone from my mind the instant I awoke.
I tried not to obsess about just what it was, knowing it would glimmer there, just out of reach. (As dreams do...)
Whatever it was, though, the name would unlock images out of other peoples' memes when THEY accessed the gizmo. That is, like any meme, it showed what friends or total strangers were flashing on in some given context. (Not necessarily the "20 questions about your love-life" sort, though that seems to be one of the areas one could explore...)
The thing -- call it an "evaneacent experience" (and God only knows where I conjured up THAT wording from!) -- was kind of like You-Tube without a camera. (and I'm NOT a big fan of You-Tube, a bit too narcissistic even for me!)
So, sort of science-fiction, as though we were all wired into a sort of collective consciousness. But my awake-analysis quickly tells me that any word/phrase -- much less bunches of them -- googled into the Web would run into the limits of on-line search. That is, an observed thing CHANGES with being observed. (There IS a name for that, but it doesn't come to me -- wait, is that the "Heisenberg effect" or something?)
And, of course, the meme changes when passed through Google. (I don't know why this seems important to me -- it's not central to the whole concept in my dream.)
So, there was the idea of glimpsing other people's responses, recorded and accessible somehow (the You Tube bit) -- NOT lots of them, I mean not a confusing mass of them! Just one or two or a few. Eidently, one could access these others' personal experiences of the "meme" (a word that, I think, came out of the dream -- it's not a conscious summing-up, as that odd "sine qua non" characterization WAS vaguely conscious, that is, from RIGHT AFTER I awoke...)
I'm not sure HOW one accessed the meme -- that is, of course, the tantalizing effect of dreaming a thing. Bridging such a gap is the stuff of imagination -- or of insane striving -- or of insanity itself? No, nothing so desperate, I seem to believe.
Getting a bit murky, I suppose. I just re-read what I wrote above, correcting the glaring errors imposed by BlackBerry and seeing whether my train of thought holds up. And -- sadly, it's painfully on the "precious" side (WTF the goddamned Heisenberg Effect!?) and I hope the reader tomorrow will forgive the evident ego-trip!
I'll try for some sleep now -- see if anything recalls itself in the daylight!
