Anybody remember Jeff Bridges as "the Dude" in "The Big Lebowski"?
Well, I used the word "abide" in a message here to a good friend, regarding what, in effect, we are ALL doing as we get through this horrid pandemic.
It was 1998, so you guys who said, "The Big...WHO?" are forgiven for being unaware of the cultural phenom that year. "Lebowski" was a laid-back, "take-it-as-it-comes" guy known as "the Dude." Everyone in his vicinity knew his dubious (but uber-cool) character. He was said to "abide" everything that might threaten his equanimity.
"The Dude abides" entered the argot. You might think of him as a. "surfer dude" who didn't surf. But I forget most of the utterly forgettable plot.
