August 21 -- the wheels fall off the Trumpsky car

Aug 22, 2018 01:21

As most of you lovely readers know, I'm obsessed with the egomaniacal nincompoop who plays at running our country. You'd therefore be right to presume that today's events on the Trumpsky front would grab my entire attention.

Conviction this afternoon of Trumpsky's onetime campaign manager Paul Manafort on 8 counts of tax fraud and related misdeeds was a victory for the Mueller investigation. But, almost simultaneously, there were guilty pleas entered by ex-Trumpsky lawyer Michael Cohen to charges brought in New York, NOT by Mueller's office.

In "allocuting" in the latter case, Cohen specified that he had arranged illicit payoffs to two women with whom Trumpsky had liaisons -- and had done so "at the direction of a candidate in the 2016 elections," who could ONLY be Trumpsky himself.

I hope you friends who aren't as familiar with American law and related institutions won't be put off by all the messy details. (I used the word "allocuting" -- suffice to say that someone pleading guilty must publicly state how he/she committed the crime for which they wish to forego a jury trial. Here, it happens to explain WHY Cohen could tidily implicate Trumpsky -- and increase the asshole's legal problems!)

And, just to make The Donald's Tuesday even WORSE, the FBI today busted GOP Congressman Duncan Hunter for bribery and other illegal actions. Turns out he had been the SECOND Republican to endorse Trumpsky in the run-up to the 2016 election.

But, it gets better: guess who was FIRST to endorse the asshole? It was a Congressman named Collins -- who was charged with similar malfeasance a few weeks ago. But damned if the two cases aren't, in fact, wholly separate! Seems Trumpsky-leaning Congressmen share a tendency toward venality. Who knew?

shameless, badnews, decisive moment, international politics, horror show, crime politics, bedfelllows, readers/friends, politics strange bedfellows, fucking sad
