I'm a bit of an amateur astronomer, so I enjoy watching out for these things. When the moon is in eclipse it often turns a bright, blood red. Some Christian fundamentalist types call these things 'blood moons' and claim that they augur the end of the world (just like the Millenium , the end of the Mayan calendar, and whatever else is going on this week). It's just dust in the atmosphere, but it is a really weird sight. I like to call them 'Vampire Moons', which is absolutely right for Tax Day, when the IRS rise from their tombs to drain the blood of the living....

Wow, astronomy buff, in addition to all your other talents and interests!

I will no doubt take in the spectacle, and I suspect we shall be hammered in due course by the news/culture media as the date approaches. It was curious WHERE I saw it first -- that obscure Wicca site on Tumblr.

And the coincidence -- I get extra points for being the first (that I know of) to cite it. Again, I predict we in the US will be hammered by the media trumpeting it.

p.s. I checked Google; in fact, it is already a Big Deal in media and among bloggers. Noted the actual scheduling (all East Coast US):
Total Eclipse Begins 02:06:47 AM Tuesday April 15
Greatest Eclipse 02:45:40 AM Tuesday April 15
Total Eclipse Ends 03:24:35 AM Tuesday April 15
Partial (Umbral) EclipseEnds 04:33:04 AM Tuesday April 15

You in Europe may not have the best view, but yours WILL be more convenient for the viewing public: morning, instead of dead of night.

Thanks! You might not know that, in the US, annual income-tax filing deadline is April 15. It is one of those "cultural references" that make sense only if one is affected by it.

Also, I note that we in the Western Hemisphere are going to get the main impact of it. (And, of course, that IS the Maya and their descendents... heh heh!)

well..I'm not that deep into it,but I love the moon since I was a little girl,so I somehow "celebrate" every moonphase or just the moment when the moon is visible :)
