I've forgot just WHY this shot so particularly appealed to me a month ago when I asked Lora for permission to feature it. I know from other photographers on Flickr that such "bokeh" light refraction is highly prized, and it is sure evocative as all heck. Goddess knows, I've been at my share of such parties over the decades, and blurriness is generally the "objective" of the celebrating.
I mentioned showing several of Lora's self-portraits; turns out I posted them here November 15. I had reblogged for my Tumblr a poem of hers on the awful subject of rape. She is quite an extraordinary young poet. I also located her Tumblr, which she has now made consistent with her Flickr address, namely "lora-mathis.tumblr.com" -- BTW That blog now has a fabulous quote from a favorite author we share: "How odd I can have all this inside me and to you it’s just words.” - David Foster Wallace
