Some of Scott's works are stories -- or at least BEG to have stories written to take them forward -- and provide daring flashbacks. Actually, I think the moment captured here IS such a look back. They had been school friends, but soon after they graduated the blonde told her black-tressed chum that she was a lesbian and was in love with an older woman. Years passed, they met again, and Blondie had had her heart broken; it was the black-haired one who confessed she, too, no longer dated guys.
OK, can someone please come up with a little back-story to "explain" the tattoos? Maybe a Mob connection? Whatever it is, it ought to freak Blondie out. And take them forward to the moment here.
