But WHY call it "Rush"??

Tonight, Joanne and I saw a great new movie, "Rush," by Ron Howard (remember Mayberry? "Opie"?). It's about the "Formula 1" car-racing circuit in the mid-70s, the focus a real-life rivalry between an English driver, James Hunt, and the Austrian Niki Lauda. Oh, and it has the delicious Olivia Wilde -- obsession of TV's "Dr. House" -- as Hunt's sexy wife Suzy (whom he loses to no less than Richard Burton, in between the latter's marriages to Liz Taylor...).

Yes, I barely recall the 'seventies...but I do quite enjoy certain kinds of auto racing -- not NASCAR or dragsters, but sports cars and single-seat competition machines on so-called "road courses" (not ovals like Indy). And Howard creates exactly THE Eurocentric milieu of that era, peopling it with terrific, believable characters -- drivers, team managers and owners, "the women who loved them," etc. (Yeah, seemingly not a film a feminist would love...)

elegant, playing rough, perfection, suzy
