Y'know when you have harsh days in work and some of the time they're harsh because you've been out past bedtime the night before and other times they're harsh for harsh's sake?
Well yesterday was HARSH.
If the week wasn't already bad enough with what rocked the Theatre gangs midweek Friday proceeded to crank the dial to 11.
A gang of us went out the night before to see Hunger Games 2 and we were all suitably impressed with the adaption. Not least of all the casting of some fabulous actors n actresses to play the new characters introduced in Catching Fire. Jena Malone as Johanna Mason and Sam Caflin as Finnick Odair were amazing. And I've always had a thing for Lynn Cohen ever since her role as Golda Meir in Munich. But most of all I liked the fact that the movie has started to focus on Katniss' mental state. Which will deteriorate as the films progress. So much so that the first 5 minutes of the movie knocked me flat on my back (in an emotional sense) and I ended up grabbing one of my friends for support. which in the quasi-darkness of a movie theatre will concern anyone. But I recovered, thankfully. :)
But all this excitement meant I didn't get into bed till late and didn't sleep much at all. Plus I had a really graphic Cert. 18 dream of the Hunger Games taking place inside a Leisure Centre. As I wrote on Facebook, me and another girl ended up hiding in an office and I managed to eliminate two tributes with the "peephole trick". I.E. wait for someone to put their eye to the peephole and when they do stick 9 inches of hardened steel through the door, and their head. Did it twice. Then Peacekeepers arrived and I got arrested ("Get on the floor, facedown, fingers spread!!!").
So I got into work usual time flying on proplus and coffee.
And thus the day began.
It was the usual suspects. Jimmy and Colt, with Jellybean on Drill Floor #1. I was assigned with Colt on Drill Floor #2. And while we had a lap-kidney it was apparently very high-risk with a 75%+ chance of opening. Great. And of course I volunteer for it... *idiot*
Eventually we find the artery leading to the kidney, and it's HUGE, and pounding like a speaker in an RnB club. BANG-BANG-BANG...ok. Do Not Cut This. Everyone held their breath as Colt and his mate did their thing, clip, position, clip, position, clip...
then they began cutting. *eeeekkkk!!*
but nothing spurted and everyone's sphincter's unclenched. though when I say "everyone" I can only speak personally for me. though Colt did become more jovial afterwards. which was nice I guess.
The case went fine, which was more than could be said for Jimmy's. Apparently it cooked-off around 11am and turned into some big open multi-case. They eventually finished the same time we did, the guy looked utterly spent.
Over on Colt's side all the afternoon cases took longer than expected. and then we hear that Main's going over too. So everyone just straps in for a rough few hours. Then the x-ray man doesn't appear to x-ray our final case. 15 mins of waiting later Colt calls the department and tells them what he thinks. great.
finally someone arrives to x-ray. and at this point with the clock threatening 5pm people start to vanish. at one point I'm running the list solo. that is checking the fluid, checking the laser, getting any stone grabbers if they're needed, keeping an eye on 100 and 1 things. someone comes from Main, has a chat and then leaves.
I shouldn't bitch because we did finish on the dot of half five. but it took me the best part of an hour to clean and close the theatre. and I did a lot of the heavy stuff on my own. I don't mind doing this (it's what I'm paid for, it's what I'm bread for, it's what I'm best at = the heavy lifting). But after the high stress morning and the little sleep and the inability to get Finnick Odair out of my head it was a hard walk home and a very short evening.
I didn't even have the energy to watch The Walking Dead. Which was kinda ironic cos it's what I felt like when I did get home. Just food, bath, bed and zzz before 11pm.
But at least I have next week off. my last week of holiday before 2014 comes and wipes all this away. and I have A LOT to do. So here's hoping I don't get sick in the meantime.
