bone-rattling! butt-shaking! i think we really need new shocks...

we have medical students and new registrars. the medical students look like they're twelve and we often have to make sure they know where things are. like the toilets and the staff room. the registrars have more moxie when it comes to generic theatres but not our specific ones, so they often stand and look on in awe/shock/embarrassment as the theatre conversation reduces to something akin to the red-light district of Old Amsterdam or one of the four (slightly bonkers) staff nurses suddenly break into laughter/tears/unusual whistling.
only i tend to do the last one. :)

Yesterday was even more crazy as i got to work with a surgeon on a big open case.
Now for some reason I've recently developed the ability to spin my surgical instruments like batons. anything long and thin (like a sponge holder) i can spin on my palm akin to V for Vendetta's V before he goes Matrix on the British fuzz. Smaller things, like scissors, i just flip over the blade of my hand and give to the surgeon with a flourish. It's not irresponsible (i've dropped nothing important yet - touch wood!) it's just dynamic, and cool, and raises eyebrows with the med students. :)

Not sure why they raise the eyes. Probably in the OMG stakes. On top of my splash shield (aka My Blast Shield!) i do look slightly different than the rest of the frowning gown-clad surgical staff huddled round a bloody dark hole. I'm also the tallest. This doesn't annoy me like a thought it would.

I know this might sound childish but i like the fact i can be irreverent in my job. I take it seriously, I care but i'm not going to do the NHS equivalent of genuflection every time i have to work with medical staff. F*ck that! I'm me.
This is the big difference between this hospital and the one i was imprisoned in prior.
The other had a stick up its arse.
This one can't be bothered, it just gets on and does it.

I'm not as down as i was last week. Maybe because i'm not in pain 24/7 with my knee/neck/back/ribcage. Now it's just the last one. Sprained cartilage is making me wince (and growl) but i have to breath so i guess i have to just suck it up (pun intended).

and onward to Dr. Who tomorrow. FINALLY.
I think if Matt Smith does leave the show in December, i hope the next Doctor can be in more total seasons than Smith has. Currently it's ONE. And i know the scope of the show is growing but an 11 month gap between 'Angels Take Manhattan' and the episode tomorrow is a bit much.
so there! ;P

laughter, dr. who, gory surgical work, scrubbing, fun
