Work collapsed today. not literally (yet) but from a figurative point of view.
we had 3 cases to last the day. the surgeon doing the first two cases called in sick, so we cancelled the first diffuclt case as he was really the only person who could do the op. the second case, the one that we had surgeons for, no showed.
we did the third case, scheduled for the afternoon, at 10am and were done by 1pm.
I then restocked, ate, took time back and was out the door by half past two.
good day.
saw Buffy Vamp Slayer last night on SciFi Channel. Or ScyFy, or however you pronounce it.
Top 20 episodes.
the last three being, predictably, Becoming 1 & 2, Hush and Once More with Feeling. the latter two copped 15% and 20% of the online vote respectively. Good call.
I admit I'm not the world's biggest Buffy fan. But I understand the appeal and appreciate the storytelling. even if i did start watching it late, over the past 18 months if I'm honest, I still see what an iconic groundbreaking show it is. many people saw the reason why Dr. Who came back was the influence of BtVS. The idea of sci-fi, monsters and fighting being twinned with character lead storytelling actually worked. Same with BSG, and Firefly, but I digress.
NOT dissing Buffy, but I found it interesting that of the top three episodes polled one was a musical, two was a silent one-shot and third was the finale to season two.
the top two are both stand-alone episodes. If they were just generically shot monster-tales without the show tunes (which i like) or the silence (which I like even more) I personally don't think they'd be as strong as they are.
Soo.. by deduction Becoming was the best story arc of the Buffy canon. And that was the (fookin amazing) finale of the second season.
They did seven (eight?) seasons of Buffy, and the consensus put the most memorable arc point at the end of Season Two? Oh. Okay.
With that in mind do you think that the show "jumped the shark" at the end of Season 2?
I know friends who think the show peaks between seasons 2 and 4, everything else is just filler.
Look, I know I know nothing when it comes to stuff like this. But seeing this I'm glad in a way both Dollhouse and Firefly got cut down early.
Serenity (Firefly movie) was really supposed to be the finale to the second season of Firefly had there been one, and with the deaths of two amazing characters I'm glad that never continued. And as for Dollhouse.. well Tim Minear once blogged that the plans for Echo's character in Season Three would have been to turn Echo into a Buffy character. Not sure how that would've worked but I'm pretty "..yeah.... I get it... but...". Not too thrilled about that revelation i have to say.
But all this is conjecture. All the shows are gone now, locked in repeat heaven/hell for evermore. I'm just wondering which show will experience its first actor death. Though we already know that's Angel. Glenn Quinn. RIP.
And with the Avengers movie coming out I doubt Whedon will ever return to television again. I wouldn't do it if I was him.
And in other news my livejournal account has expired. So out of 55 odd icons I now only have 5 to play with. this blows.
