Why do we fall? so we can learn how to pick ourselves up

Just saw Being Human. I think Mitchell's attempt to explain how to stay 'on the wagon' when it came to drinking blood was one of the best descriptions of addiction/self-worth I've ever heard.
When asked how you do it he replied (paraphrasing): You surround yourself with good people, people who are better than you. That way when you want to submit to the craving you risk their disappointment of you above your own. and that's what keeps you on the straight..

he's right. the good people around you try and keep you thinking that you're better than you are even if you don't believe it yourself.

self belief, self esteem
