why did you mention your mother?

I went to my worst place today. To my dentist, who - in all fairness - is still a little bit of a transphobe. But he's also a bloody good dentist, sometimes you have to take the rough with the smooth I guess. At least that's how I see it.

My right-side incisor tooth, for those of you who don't know, has been in danger of root canal treatment for a while now. It got bad last week and I decided to go and get my check and treatment before Christmas shut everything down.
He was surprised to see me, and we then had a fun 10 minutes trying to determine which tooth it was had the exposed nerve. This meant subjecting my tooth to freezing cold, taps with a metal probe and an x-ray. All of the above made me squeak and kick in the chair, as my pain threshold - while being high - is exposed when it comes to my teeth. It's the nerves, like the soles of the feet, those nerves run right to the brain and it being a direct pathway means the kic you receive is that more severe. caused me to swear and stop myself just before a said the word "-fucker" so at least I didn't swear in front of transphobe.

But he had to recline the chair virtually all the way to get to the tooth, all the blood rushed to my head and following the shot of local I virtually fell asleep I was so out of it. He performed some emergency capping and the pain has eased but it's still tender to touch and I don't know how bad it's going to be when I brush it tonight.
As a result of all this endorphin activity I've felt zonked for the remainder of the day and have only just woken up after curling up under my throw for the past 2 hours.

Here's hoping I recover fully for the weekend, cos I return to London for the first time in almost a year to see friends I haven't seen in nearly two.

pain, dentists
