ok, my mom told me this last month. but for reasons, that should become obviously clear, i only comment on it now.
we all live in a very odd age, 9/11 can be seen as a break-point, "innocence lost" and all that jazz and the world has continued to turn but with some unusual leaders and unusual results.
example: on July 1st 2007 the UK is starting it's PUBLIC SMOKING BAN. meaning it will be illegal to spark up in public from that day forward.
now i'm sure this will be circumvented in a variety of ways, remember it's illegal to smoke in pubs & clubs in the UK, but the last time i was in The Bay in aber we all had a grand old time and no one steward, bouncer or bark-staff member came over and stated: "I'm sorry miss, you'll have to extinguish that cigarette".
but, from 1st July onwards if you are caught dropping a used cigg butt on the ground in public, (how you got to be smoking in public is irrelevant) then you can be fined £80 on the spot.
littering apparently just got a whole lot more expensive.
America had the great line: "The government that governs best governs least".
that's paraphrased and i have no idea who said it either, but the idea was sound. of course then the 2nd Amendment came to pass and it was all downhill from there.
but it has to be better than the UK turning into a police state.
isn't it?
i know that's an extreme perspective but sometimes i can't help feeling like we're on this slippery slope to societies resembling 1984, The Running Man or Fahrenheit 451.
And something equivalent to The Nuremburg Laws being re-introduced to apply to anyone who isn't in line with Party doctrine.
I think we can say that the whole trans-thing will fall in that category.
Or as Alexis Arquette so eloquently put it: "You still have to watch out for the Gestapo".
i think she means those people who are blessed/cursed with a mix of power and intolerance rather than resurrected Nazis. Although there is a book by James Herbert that speaks of a group trying to resurrect Himmler so there you go.
Anyway.... my point is ignore all this.
Because on the 5th June something wonderful happens.
Technically in the USA it's already happened, but cos I'm British i don't care.
At 2am on the 5th June, at 4 seconds past 3 minutes the following will occur:
02.03.04 on 05.06.07.
and there is a good chance that will be the only time it will happen in human history, and most certainly the only time it will happen in mine, or anyone reading's lifetimes.
isn't that amazing?
i think so, and i'm surprised we don't have a party or an event planned for it. Like a commemoration, or something.
Oh well, here's to another 1000 years.
blah,
cosmos,
musing,
smoking
