One of the things you want to teach yourself not to do is repeat words too often. Try using alternatives for knock and door for example: rapping, pounding. Since there aren't a lot of words you can use for door, you might want to describe what kind of door it is the first time - like the heavy oak door - then just use door the second time.

Yeah... That is a problem I seem to have in a lot of stuff I write, and it irks me whenever I read over something I wrote and see it. Thanks for the advice. I'll try to remember that.
