I must admit, it's one of the 5 books on that shelf that I haven't fully read yet. I picked it up at the Harvard Book Store1 last month. Of the others, I got about half way through _Atlas Shrugged_ and failed to pick it up again maybe a year ago. _Capital_ came from *ahem* the shelf at the coin-op laundry near my apartment a couple of weeks ago, _Theory of Games and Economic Behavior_ arrived in the mail 2 weeks ago, _On Numbers And Games_ is one of those books I keep attempting to read, getting about half a chapter (any chapter) into, and finding out I don't have the time (much less math skills) required to make sense of it.
_Gravity's Rainbow_ is there because I don't have a fireplace.
1I think their only relationship with the school is via proximity, but I could be wrong.
I also like Sutin's bio on Crowley, it's tied with Kacsynski's bio for my favorite on that subject. Sutin's PKD bio was extremely good, I thought. Never read _Atlas Shrugged_. Not sure I need to at this point, I think I've grabbed all I need to know of Rand secondhand. As for Pynchon, I like _The Crying of Lot 49_, and _V_. I keep meaning to read _GR_ just for completion's sake, partly because he just published he first new novel in years.
I just thought it was wonderful that near totally random events put _Capital_ next to _Atlas Shrugged_ and _Theory of Games and Economic Behavior_. The irony was so palpable I nearly went back to sleep.
Ok, so there's a very strong urge to go back to sleep on any given morning. Still.
Amusingly enough, I also have Atlas Shrugged, Snow Crash, and that very same Hitchhiker's Guide Compendium on the same shelf on my bookshelf. I place books semi-randomly according to what will fit on which shelves. ;)
