It's his first Christmas in a long time that he's spent with someone other than his brother. More than that, he's spending it with the girl he loves, and he can't imagine passing the holidays more enjoyably than to wake up next to Gabriella like this. To celebrate, he's bought them a special surprise, which he hopes Gabriella will approve of (and his dog won't be too angry with, when he meets the little thing, eventually).

He'd gotten up early this morning to go fetch the surprise, assuring a sleepy Gabriella that he'd be back soon. He returns now, setting the kitten on the bed and watching eagerly as she wobbles her way up to snuffle at Gabriella's cheek.
