Life has been so interesting. I was scheduled to watch Tampopo with Estelle tonight. We've been trying to hang out for god knows how long (2 weeks? haha), and I was a bit nervous because I don't know my way around Hampshire College too well...
I went up early, about 5.
Sat in Fresh Side, ordered two Ginger Tofu Tea Rolls.
Complimentary water.
Waited for Halie. we were supposed to meet up for fun.
she was a bit late, but i was ok with that. i like being alone a lot.
I finish my tea rolls,
observing a man in his mid 50s reading a book. he ordered a lot. mustve been two tea rolls,
a salad of some sort, and of course miso soup. ("fuck, shouldve gotten miso soup")
diagonal to him was a college student. brushing up on some homework, or just leisure literature.
regardless, it was fucking quiet. and i was reacting to that. i sat quietly, modestly.
two asian student-types walked in, and they looked so certain. like when a dog runs freely on a farm after being oppressed by the shackles of domestication. like they were comfortable in a place where they could only pretend to be comfortable.
just then, the white old man answered his phone, the sound of his stern, loud, deep voice shocked me a little bit. i thought he was the politely-quiet type?
i split and went to newbury.
looked around, blah, same shit, and halie came in, we had some good small talk, friend to friend, good.
we looked for stuff. talked music, talked life.
i found "the miles davis story" dvd, and bought it.
mike showed, we talked to matt at the counter, about nothing really.
us two walked to Rao's for coffee. they left me. i was meeting estelle at 8. it was 630.
i went to raven and picked up a book on warhol's illustrative career before he became world famous. inspired, i ran to my van and sat outside and did line drawings of the concrete landscape.
it was about time to get to hampshire, i hopped in my van, feeling about as uncertain as ever, and drove down 116, reached my destination with hardly any effort. relief.
i met her while she was taking the trash out, so it smelled terrible. she's strong, without many insecurities.
we watched tampopo, and it was lovely.
lovely, special night. the day as a whole was so different.
