  • Just in case the out-of-touch media machine has been fooling you, here are the President's latest numbers regarding the stimulus. Mmmhmm, that's right. I must say this has been helped along by the increasingly histrionic bellowing (scroll down to 'hyperbole watch') of Senate Republicans, who are beginning to sound like chicken littles who, while ignoring the falling sky, are obsessing about the uneven terrain. The media weirdness is a sight to see. They're so hungry for ways to do critical stories on Obama and so allured by the prospect that he's finally made a mistake, that they too are starting to seem neurotic. Of course, the truth is, they are neurotic, as the "oh no, O!" stories are not really born of a dislike for Obama, but a professional ethic that loves a reversal of fortunes narrative. They're also super, super sensitive about being too Obama friendly. This is a worry that always cripples the MSM, particularly with democratic presidents. This is not because media do not like democrats necessarily, I thnk it's because a slim majority of national journalists are democrats themselves, so they do a lot of defensive negative coverage. Also, Dems don't work the refs quite as ruthlessly as Repubs. I know, if only Joseph Heller could write a sequel to Catch 22 satirizing the media. It would be a big seller, I'm telling you.

Update: new numbers for the Pres. regarding the stimulus from CNN, which nevertheless has a headline spinning these shinning digits as a net negative. Cracktastic.

  • I've been cleaning up in the music department recently. The winter has put me in the mood for soft, atmospheric tunes. My new fav's are a folk electronica group called Bon Iver ("good winter" in French). Of course, A tipped me off about these folks about a year ago, but I only just got around to falling in love with them. Also on my radar, the Cinematic Orchestra's beautiful, beautiful soundtrack The Crimson Wing. And, of course, if you haven't heard Ma Fluer yet, please do yourself a favor and run right over to myspace for a quiet, soulful treat.

  • I'm bummed that the new Joss Whedon show, Dollhouse, is premiering on Friday at 9:00 CST, in competition with the final season of Battlestar Gallactica. Boo!
