well, kinda. i figured i'd post some of the stuff i've been researching and writing in my current job as Community News Editor at U of C.

what follows are my favorite stories that i've written so far this year. most of them are about kids being awesome. what can i say? it's an old theme,

just click on whatever headline interests you:

South Side Scribblers make their mark on neighborhood schools

NKO Charter School second-graders get head start on business school education

CKP helps sustain community groups through network that connects them to one another

Court Theatre stages a new canon

in the early spring, i'll be spearheading a special community service issue of the Chronicle as well as a simultaneous web-roll out of stories that are about the University's engagement with the community more broadly. it'll be the first time the U of C news office has ever devoted our considerable real-estate to focus on community stories. i think it'll be fabulous and something that can be easily turned in to an annual thing that can be replicated by whomever is in this position next. it'll force the news office to stretch their legs outside the bubble and help to integrate community folk, projects and institutions into the self-conception of the university as well as providing a place where our neighbors can see their efforts and triumphs reflected. at least that's my hope!

daily grind, news office
