slow going

so, i'm about to blow the deadline i set for myself to complete Chapter 3. i forgot that i had a bunch of professional stuff to do yesterday, not to mention the last minute running around that always proceeds a trip. plus, this chapter just wants to take its time. i'm having to fight for every paragraph on this one and sometimes getting from one sentence to the next is an unaccountable chore. interestingly, i'm not stuck, it's just slow going. picture an intellectual blizzard. ummhmm, like that.

i've got some wiggle room in my schedule and although i'd love to start chapter 1 when i get back from new hampshire, i've got to slog along this chapter's road for a while longer. really, so long as chapters 1-4 are completed and submitted to my readers by the time i have to start teaching in january '08, i'll try not to let myself worry too much (though the 4th chapter is still in need of major overhall and won't get the treatment it needs until i'm completely done coding and running data, but that's a project i've scheduled for winter quarter anyway).

in other news, today is going to be busy. i have a very unpleasant meeting this morning and then a billion errands to run. i have to send the gorgeous flat healed black boots i got from zappos back because the leather sags at the ankles but is tight on my calf, which makes me look like i have some kind of bone disorder. that's what i get for having big feet and skinny ankles. i have the same problem with button downs -- when i get shirts to fit my waist, they don't close over my chest and when they close over my chest they balloon horribly at the waist and make me look like a behemoth. i swear, my whole body is out of proportion! bygones.

tonight i'm supposed to be in about 3 places at once -- celebratory drinks for the new doctor RY, dance class, and crafts and wine in boystown. obviously, something's got to give, but i haven't figured out quite what yet and i hate to miss any of it.

regardless, tomorrow morning i'm off. i have to say, i'm looking forward to the colors of the leaves in the northeast. i'll be driving a fair amount (from new haven to manchester, new hampshire on thursday and then back on saturday) but it'll go quickly and pleasantly if the sky is that edward hopper blue and the trees are ablaze.

daily grind
