musical note

i'm not big on tribute albums for obvious reasons, but most of the tracks on exit music: songs with radio heads just blow me away. full disclosure: this album, released in 2006, was poorly received by radiohead fans (but extremely well received by the straight no chaser crowd, of which my bbc radio friend giles is an incomparable herald) but i suspect that's due to the genre twisting interpretations by artists like bilal, cinematic orchestra, meshell n'degeocello and (the recently very popular) mark ronson. thankfully, i love jazz, funk, and soul as much as i love radiohead so, i find the merging completely blissful--rockin' out and wagging my behind on the same track. what could be better? i can't account for everybody's taste, but objectively speaking (if you'll forgive me), this album is a dynamic and skilled set of musical reinventions that is worth a listen, which is probably why thom and the boys went for the idea in the first place. they've got good taste, you know, and they don't mind pushing composition to ever more complex and layered limits. it's what i like about them so, what choice do i have but to pass it along?

anyway, gotta go. 10:00 am deadline and all that...

daily grind, cafe music
