i tell you what, there doesn't seem to be much to report on when you're just doing the daily. the big news is, there's very little big news. the great period of upheaval seems to be at an end (so be it) and both ST and i are just going about our business, both separate and mutual.

the diss. is inching along excruciatingly slowly, but perceptibly none the less. work on the house continues at an equally excruciating, but similarly perceptible rate. the puppy search is fully on and although it's slow, it feels leisurely rather than interminable so, there's that.

mmm, what else? well, it seems i have fiction back. for a while after my brother, then iris, then ST's grandmother, then my grandmother died, i could not concentrate on fiction. it was terribly paradoxical because i go to bookstores to calm myself down, wandering the rows and fondling the editions has always been a way to self medicate (just the smell of new paper and printed ink puts me in a better mood; energetic or serene, whatever i need), but for nearly a year i've bought books, read a page or two and then forgotten them, letting them gather dust on a shelf. the world has been so immediate, so much with me, that i could not find my way to any other place, let alone get lost there. but happily, it seems that since my vacation with ST in early april, the spell of limited attention has lifted. in fact, i've been scarfing down trashy novels like it's going out of style (and it well may be, but i couldn't care less). i figure that's progress. and i like progress. why, it may be my very favorite-ist thing.
