Elsewhere on the internet people are taking stock of their goals for the year at this half-way point. It seems to me a very sensible thing to do, and it gives me yet another reason to write a list (I love lists)! So here are mine.
My goals for 2009 (an amalgamation of original goals and new ones):
1) Sell another book : I finished a draft and initial revision, per my planned schedule, so this is on track. In the second half of 2009 I'll revisereviserevise, submit to my agent, and hope for the best!
2) (New) If I sell this book, I will put purple streaks in my hair (or possibly dye it all).
3) Maintain my ability to run 5K regularly even over the dark cold Maine winter: I achieved this. But now that it's warmer out I need to keep it up (I've been floundering in the recent perpetual deluge). So for the second half of the year I'll have a goal of building back up to running 10K.
4) Redo the tiny room with the china built-ins and paint it: Done, thanks to a contractor and my dad! For the second half of the year, the goal will be to rearrange the downstairs furniture to take advantage of the new room, and to finally paint the trim in the living and dining rooms.
5) Read as many books as I did in 2008: On track, as I've read half the intended total. So I just need to keep this up.
6) "Do more music and art": Yeah, that one is pretty amorphous! I set myself a different daily goal starting in July of doing one musical or art thing each day, even if it's only playing a single song on my fiddle or doodling a gnome.
7) "Do more fun stuff with local friends": Another amorphous one, though I feel I've met it for the first half of the year. To make it more specific for the second half I will alter it to: finally hold a Tea Party (traditional Victorian or Steampunk).
8) (New) Reach out to other local libraries and schedule two more talks, since I enjoyed the first one so much.
9) (New) Attempt to bake macarons.
10) (New) Create educational materials for FF to put on my website for teachers, etc.
I still think I need better goals for the music/art stuff. Maybe it should be "Learn five new fiddle tunes" or "take an art class". Hmm... Will have to think on that.
What about you guys? Anyone set yearly goals? How are you doing with them?
