This is more as my motivation than anything else.

Everybody’s looking at them like it’s some kind of a freak show and Jared can see Jensen’s sympathetic gaze from the corner of his eyes. It’s too much to take so Jared’s just standing there with a crowd of media people gathering around them. Alex’s cajoling Genevieve to stop, his tone soft and pleading but her eyes are trained on Jared, unforgiving.

“Tell him you’re not, Jared,” she says, oblivious to the low murmurs of the crowd, the blinking of the camera flashes. “Because you’d tell me if you are, right? Otherwise you’re just a coward.”

Jared knows he should say something. Anything. Instead he just stands there taking in her words and Alex’s unrepentant gaze and the sad slope of Jensen’s eyes on him. So she keeps on going and going.

“Tell him, Jared. Or tell me. Tell me you’re in love with me, you coward. Say it. Say it!”

Jared pushes her back into Alex’s chest, his breathing harsh, and Jensen touches his elbow, forehead bunched up with concern. It comes out before he knows it, in front of the press and God. “I am in love,” he says, to the frenzy of the media. “I’m in love with Jensen.”

Jensen’s too dumbfounded to resist when Jared jerks him close and then their lips smash together haphazardly. It’s not an incredible first kiss but Jensen’s lips are soft and slack underneath Jared’s and he can feel Jensen’s eyelashes fluttering against his skin. Somehow in the midst of all the noise and camera flashes, the kiss grows intimate, their hands locked between their chests. Jensen’s eyes are blown wide when they part and Jared doesn’t think twice before he’s taking Jensen’s hand and getting them both out of there.

Danneel’s eyebrows are high on her forehead as she throws the tabloid paper onto the coffee table between them. “I see tongue.”

“Danni,” Jared sighs.

“No, Jared,” she interrupts. “I want you to think about what you’ve done. It’s bad enough that you came out in such an un-classy way but you’ve dragged Jensen down with you. And worst of all, you did it for the wrong reason!”

Jared casts a glance in Jensen’s direction but he’s not looking at either of them, hands in his lap. “I know,” Jared nods. “And I’m sorry, Jensen. It was stupid. I wasn’t really thinking.”

Jensen finally looks up. “It’s okay,” he shrugs. “It doesn’t count as coming out if I was never in the closet in the first place, right?”

Jared knows his gratitude at Jensen’s reaction to the whole thing is apparent on his face. Danneel’s looking back and forth between them before her feature softens. “There’s already rumors that it was Jensen you were proposing to. And a whole bunch of talk about a civil ceremony next month.”

Jared can feel his jaw tighten in resolution and he holds Danneel’s gaze even as his heart hammers against his ribcage. “Let them talk. I want to go through with it.”

Danneel’s mouth drops open. “You’ve officially lost your mind.”

Jensen sputters from next to him. And Jared thought a writer’s supposed to be eloquent. “Wait a minute,” he says, a panicked tinge in his voice. “Don’t I have any say in this?”
