My cousin has a tattoo like that. I no longer feel like he is family.

What's happening to this country and that symbol is disgusting, and I wonder if I'll ever be able to look at the southern cross with pride again. Probably not.

This is the kind of country you are living in. It is a country where things like this happens. But I don't think it's reflective of Australia as a people. Many countries have issues like this, and some of them aren't even "western" countries. Looking at these horrible aspects and saying "this is Australia, I don't like Australia" isn't much better than the Australians who look at the bad behaviors of immigrants and say "this is foreigners, I don't like foreigners".

Not that I'm saying you're doing that. But I just know that when you're in it, when you're seeing that attitude every day, and when you have personal threat of violence, it can be hard to remember that those people aren't the majority.

I really feel for you, being in that situation. I hope you can avoid the worst parts of it. I hope it doesn't hurt your opinions of Australia too much.
