I am so glad to find this community :), found it through the LJ spotlight. I did do a quick post in the new forum.
I'm a military brat that was raised in germany, my dad kept extending his tour since we loved it there so much. We spent a total of 15 years there. I live in Babenhausen (not on base), Dieburg, Mannheim (on base). I was born in the U.S, but left when I was 4. So imagine the culture shock moving to the U.S at 19 lol.
My daughter was born in Heidelberg, and at some point, I would love to take her back. She's 14 now, and starting to get an interest in germany and the language. If you have some pictures or awesome sites of Heidelberg, please share them with me.
I would say that I miss everything possible about germany, from the small towns with the large churches to the customs. I especially miss the gasthaus's, volkmarch's etc. I wish my daughter could have been raised there, but that was impossible at the time :(.
