Hello, deutsche_kultur community. I haven't posted here before, so excuse me if I do something wrong.
I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the city/town of Goettingen. I'm a university student in California and have just been accepted into a program to study in Goettingen for a full year. Because I am only in my 2nd quarter of German language, I have to go to Goettingen a few months earlier than most exchange students to pick up the language requirement more quickly.
I guess my primary concern is that I'm taking on too much. It will have only been 12 months since I started taking German courses upon the time that I start taking German university courses in a Germany university, in German. Does anyone have any insight into the German university that I can't just look up in an online brochure? Does anyone think it might be too hard?
I am willing to work hard to master the language (I speak Spanish and have lived in Spanish-speaking countries when I didn't understand as much as I could have, and I did fine), but taking classes where I will be evaluated and judged against German students is, admittedly, pretty intimidating.
Also, what about the town of Goettingen itself? I wanted to stray away from Berlin (I've done the 'big city' thing before... I definitely want to visit Berlin, na klar, but I wanted to do something a little more remote.) But is Goettingen so remote that I'll go crazy? I don't know what to expect!
Any help is appreciated.
Danke schoen,
Brandon
