Expedition Preparations and Other Stuff

So, I had my jabs for Hepatitis A and  Typhoid today, and am feeling rather woozy from the side-effects. Within the next week I still need injections for Rabies, Hep B, Yellow Fever and to get my prescription for high-end Malaria pills. I at least feel glad that I'm getting this out of the way now and not within a week of take-off. Scarier than potential side-effects of jabs is of course the cost of the damn things. I can't be innoculated against diseases which aren't endemic to Britain on the NHS, which means those latter three vaccines are going to be damned expensive, costing well over a hundred between them. Of course, the alternative (not getting vaccinated) is far too stupid to contemplate.

On a less serious note, I've had plenty time now to give my shiny new camera a few test runs. Since Carlisle doesn't have much in the way of cinematic landscapes, I've been choosing insted to concentrate on my macro and close-up photography. Since Carlisle is also distinctly lacking in large and brightly-coloured insects, I've been taking snaps of my Warhammer mioniatures instead, and thoroughly enjoying the ability to get the kind of detail which would be impossible on my previous compact cameras.

Here's an example:

That model is only about an inch tall. The contrast of the picture is a tad high for my liking (the paintjob is my own, and isn't quite as bright as it appears here), but there'll be a way around that I'm sure. If nothing else, the photos I take with that camera can still be digitally manipulated.
