How I made my class laugh and my professor groan.

So in my anat class today we were discussing the endocrine system. My professor goes into diabetes, and that some how ends us up on the Atkins diet.  (warning bad joke ahead)

Prof: "So what your brain needs is simple sugars to run, muscles can work off of fatty acids, like protiens and stored adipose tissue(fat), the brain can't use fatty acid, so the atkins diet gives you a lot of the fatty acids which you burn away and your body starts digesting fat stores for sugar for the brain because your not giving your self what the brain needs"

Student: asks some question about some enzyme or something to that effect I wasn't paying attention too.

Me: "So what your saying is that the atkins diet is quite litterally a stupid diet"

Pro: "No, what I am saying is that the diet does give you muscles all the energy they need and helps to loose the weight but it denies... Oh, I see what you were saying." (tilting his body back in delayed recognition of my statement)

Class room: Laughing and very amused

Prof: "Yes it does starve the brain so you could call it a stupid diet"
I think of all the joke styles I like the most its the jokes with the delayed recognition the most. He went on for about 10 seconds and then the joke finally clicked. He groaned a little at his own inability to recognize the joke faster and acknowledged that it was a bit early even for him for that kind of joke. The look he gave me and half the class suddenly realizing what I meant was absolutly pricless.
