End of Wars

It seems to me that governments and politicians never learn. I mean, all through history humans have killed humans in the name of religion, politics, and exploration. People settle disagreements by fighting, people try to prove that their religion is better than another because they can beat the shit out of people better. Wars are fought and won by idiots who think that death is a solution to their problems. Meanwhile, people who may or may not agree with what is being fougt about are sent out, oft against their will, to die in an idiotic battle. Innocent people die because two opposing forces can't agree civilly. I mean, we're supposed to be evolving right? Growing smarter? More civilized? Why do we still kill each other when we disagree?

I've heard people say that war is sometimes the only solution. "I mean, look back at history. Wars have been the only solution on many occasions, and good things have come from it." "Look at history, humans fight wars, it's our nature. It's our destiny. We can't stop that." Right. For some reason I don't believe you. I mean listen to yourself! What is history? History is a record of all events leading up to our present situation. Of what use is history? History is here for us to learn from. We see history and learn history so that we don't repeat all the past mistakes that our ancestors made. Exactly. That's the point. So why are we still fighting? Because if you look back at history...we've always fought. For some reason, it seems we haven't yet figured out that one of the things history is trying to show us is that war is not the best solution to our problems. We just keep on going against our own thoughts, saying "it's our heritage, it's human nature, we can't fight it" while the rest of the time we're saying "learn from your mistakes." Kind of ironic, wouldn't you say?

I say we learn to take our own advice and learn not to solve our problems through violence. For as we've seen, violence begets violence. Revenge is our second nature. You kill my brother, I'm going to kill you. Then your brother is going to try to kill me. Then my father will kill him, and his father will kill my father, and in the end we've both died, along with our families and friends. All for naught. You know how to solve this problem? Don't kill my brother. Instead, talk about what's bothering you. Try to solve things verbally. Work things out. Cooperate.

"But sometimes cooperation doesn't work." True. Sometimes people are so stupid you can't talk to them and get a reasonable agreement worked out. "So then you go to war." Wrong. There's no reason to. That would only fuel the fire and more innocent people would die. "But it's our nature, it's our history. People have fought wars for centuries." Yes, they have. Doesn't mean we can't learn and adapt. Doesn't mean we have to fight. Look at it this way, back then they had to fight wars. They may not have had a choice. They didn't have the advancements or the technology to be able to settle such conflicts peacefully. (This is assuming that peaceful negotiations didn't work out.) So, due to lack of any other means of conflict resolution, they fought. But nowdays the entire world has evolved. We've got a huge network that connects every computer to every other computer, all accross the world. People play games of world domination, fighting battles back and forth, winning and losing without any real casualties, every day. Why, then, can't we devise some system for governments to fight their wars online? "Hackers." What's stopping the governments from starting a completely seperate network for such communication? That way it wouldn't be connected to our web and hackers wouldn't have any part in it.

It's true, the idea of a global, inter-continental "war game" is a little unrealistic. But it is a solution that is feasable. And I'm sure there are thousands more out there. All I'm saying is that we, as humans, have evolved the technology that would allow us to settle our differences without the need for fighting, wars, nuclear weapons, or innocent casualties. We no longer have to solve problems through murder. So why don't we? I say we try.

We, the people of America, have certain freedoms. We can question the governments. We can relay ideas in whatever terms we like. We can change our country. So I say we contact our leaders with this proposition. We tell them our ideas, tell them what we want. We pass the idea to them, they pass it on to the other governments of other countries. I'm sure that other people, all over the world, wish for the same thing we do. I say we work to make this difference. Let's change the world.

If anyone has any ideas of how to solve conflicts without battles or wars, without an end to human life, please email them to me at piratephilosophers@yahoo.com. I'll look through them, Sloth and I will review them, and we'll consider sending them to our local, state, and national government. We can do this. We can make a difference. We are the government of our country, let's start acting like it.
