I have launched into learning Ukranian, as well as the Welsh I'm already working on. After talks at work, it seemed like a good time to start, and I felt more interested. I originally intended to learn Russianm, but the free language program from the library lists Ukranian instead. Amusement abounds at one of the Russian books I picked up from the library. I thought it was an English-to-Russian text, but it is the other way around. It is from the early 90s, before the fall of the USSR. So there are occasional statements such as, "Before the October Revolution, the peasants were very poor." And most of the English text comes from Soviet Weekly.
Да, я член КПСС. - (Sounds kind of like: Da, ya chlyen KPSS. I don't know how to pronounce the letters yet.)
Means: Yes, I am a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
:D I'm going to have ridiculous fun with this.
Sometime in the near future I also intend to learn Korean. A good friend of mine is going to be learning it, so I promised I'd learn and then we'd be able to talk to each other. (Korean will also let me read many more news articles about North Korea.)
