Yesterday there were three people capable of running the MedCart and only one CNA (wiper of butts, maker of snacks). Therefore, one of the MedTechs needed to work the floor.
I begged and pled not to be assigned to the floor. The MedCart in the morning is challenging and fun ; the floor, on the other hand, is boring and exhausting. So i pulled the "I need more experience" card. Boo-yah.
The MedTech who worked my floor was not exactly gracious about the thing, and she became even less fun to be around when the residents were fed a summer treat for a morning snack. Some of the less sentient residents had as many as four pieces of juicy, ripe watermelon. To make things worse, someone in power had decided that lunch should involve asparagus.
For those of you not in the know, watermelon is a pretty potent diuretic (something that causes urination), and asparagus secretes methyl mercaptan, which makes urine smell *really* disgusting. So, this MedTech was changing these residents as much as once every thirty minutes or else the smell would become overpowering.
