um, seeing the shins ruled so hard. i can't believe how true james mercer's voice is to the albums. and how hard they rocked and how good the whole band was overall and how *amazing* the audience was. it just goes to show, once again, that smart and nice people like good music. between each song, you nearly could have heard a pin drop, but people applauded their asses off after each song ended. and during the acoustic rendition of 'chutes too narrow', the *entire* audience sang every word and it was sooo beautiful! and james mercer sang every note pitch perfect. it was sick, really. and then they went straight into 'kissing the lipless' and it rocked so damn hard!!!!! christ, they sounded good. 'new slang' ruled so hard, too. wow. that show was worth driving to and from atlanta, easily. and i must mention that james mercer is so smoking hot it's unbelievable. his arms. unh! oh, and the glands from athens opened, and they rocked real hard. i really liked their show and would love to see them again. and rogue wave, also of subpop, opened, but we didn't get there in time for that.
then the next day, sara and i rode marta all the way downtown and went through atlanta underground and to the coke museum only to find some dillhole with a bullhorn standing outside announcing that it had closed already due to a private party. so that BLEW. no worldly coke for me! :(
then we went to waffle house. ahaha. seriously. sara and her love for waffle house. i just don't know sometimes. we went with her parents which was rather strange due to her father being sort of belligerent and weird and assmunch-like. don't get me wrong, i think he's a good guy and everything, but he was in rare form. i ate a chicken melt with hashbrowns scattered and smothered, so i'm not complaining. and it was free. then sara and i drove home and made it in four hours.
oh! i also went over to chris' house and met velma, his mom, again. it was the first time i had ever actually hung out with her and it was pretty great. i like her, and you can tell she's led an interesting life. i did not, however, get to subject myself to the entertaining (?) insanity of josh. the last time i saw josh, he was completely sane. :( and i got to hang out in chris' art studio and play with his dremmel set. that was excellent. it was fun. but i didn't get to meet jess, which was a bummer. next time, eh?
and now back at home in charleston...it's raining and our air conditioning is broken. i'm surprised it's not actually raining inside, it's so freaking humid in here. guh. now i have to look for a job for real since i've finally had my last day. this should be an interesting next coupla months.......
p.s. brynne, you suck for not seeing the shins. big time. you do not suck, however, for making me a birthday cd!!!
