Elliot had no problems with helping Olivia out, after their talk. He was surprised he actually asked her to dinner and shook his head. He had grabbed his jacket and was out the door right after they finished talking. It was odd but it was nice too to see her out of work ( Read more... )

Olivia didn't wear old pajama pants and tee-shirt like she joked, she actually managed to dress. Shorts and a tank top, she pulled her hair back in a scarf to keep it away from her eyes. Since it was cleaning day, this was acceptable, when she heard the door she had finished wiping off a stack of books on her book shelf.

Raising an eyebrow, she smiled at him and pointed to the kitchen and the light bulbs on the island. "So I can get up there, I just can't take the light cover off to get to the bulbs."

He perked a brow looking her over and smiled. He followed her finger to where she pointed and went climbing up. He fiddled with it a before it popped off.

"Been awhile since this bulb has needed to be changed Liv?"

He unscrewed it and held the dead bulb to her. He looked down again watching her before he spoke.

"Look good in shorts."

"If by awhile you mean more then two months, yes, yes, it has been awhile." Grinning she reached up and took the light bulb from him and then offered him a new one. "What can I say, I procrastinate. A lot."

Tossing the dead bulb into the garbage, she looked over her shoulder at him and raised an eyebrow.

"Thanks, you've seen me in shorts before I'm sure."

"Not often and not so dressed down."

He screwed the new bulb in and put the covering back on it and looked at her smiling.

"I'm the same way. Too many things needed fixed around the house but not something I need to worry about now."

"I've found that cleaning while dressed in a work suit really isn't very functional. Plus you're all in jeans and a tee-shirt." She motioned to what he was wear with a dismissive wave of her hand, trying to get him to focus on something other then her shorts.

Once the light was on, she grinned, and offered him a towel to wipe his hands off. "So instead of fixing things at your house, you're here working in my kitchen."

"I really dislike suits to be honest."

He took the towel and cleaned his hands shrugging a bit. He looked at her a moment.

"Not my house anymore Liv. I'm in a hotel now."

"Really? Why didn't you say anything before? I mean it's not like I would listen to you, but still." She moved around him and opened the fridge. "Can I get you something to drink?"

Chewing on her bottom lip, she focused on studying the contents of the fridge instead of facing the fact that he wasn't at home any more. "Yeah, I - I know, have you found an apartment?"

"It goes with the work. It's just like a uniform how I look at it anymore." He leaned against the counter and shrugged. "Beer if you got it."

He watched her and shook his head then. "No not yet just made sense to let Kathy and the kids have the house. She gets full ownership in the divorce settlement."

"Yeah, I can see that, I mean it makes sense." Grabbing two beers, she walked over to him and climbed up on a stool before offering him the beer. Opening the one for herself, she took a long drink, and then licked her lips.

"You guys aren't going to try and reconcile at all? I mean, it's really over?" She wasn't sure if she was happy about that or not.

He took a beer from her and popped it opened quickly taking a long drink and looked at her then.

"It's over this time. She can't handle it anymore."

Shaking her head, she focused on her bottle of beer, picking at the label she took another drink. "I am really sorry about that, El. I mean, really."

"It happens things have been on edge for years. I work too much. It effects me too much for her tastes." He shrugged it off taking another drink. "Still wanting that dinner?"

"I know, but, still. I mean when I thought about family, about having it all - I kind of thought of you." She frowned and peeled the sticky, wet paper label off the bottle, a nervous habit.

"Yeah, dinner sounds good, let me go change."

"I guess I didn't have it all in the end." He smiled a bit then. "I still got the kids."

Sighing, she got off the stool and shook her head before heading back to the bedroom. "How are they, by the way? How are they handling everything?"

"The older ones I think saw it coming. They are all doing good. Good as they can."
