Yet Another Misguided (?) LJ Experiment

Jun 22, 2010 10:34

So, I was digging through my yahoo mail account, and found that I had 12,958 stored messages which contained the words "LJ Comment" in the title.

I dug through some of the older ones. One thing that struck me was how high a percentage of it was "hate mail" stemming from my interactions on christianityI checked on a number of ex-LJ Friends, to see if their ( Read more... )

In my case it's a pretty long phase.

I think basically the advent of facebook, twitter et al is a death knell for blogging sites. People have short attention spans and seem to prefer microblogging about the mundane minutiae of their lives that no one cares about anyhow instead of writing anything of substance :(

(wow, I sound pretentious now!!)

I think you are probably right about all of that. (Except for sounding pretentious.)

Not so much "phase" as "subject to temporary suppression for time management reasons" on an order of months.

As for the "hate mail"/deleted correlation: that sounds reasonable.

I've been reading my Friends list reliably for the last nine years. (!) I sometimes go weeks between posts but, as Prester Scott said above, it's been a really long phase for me. I wouldn't be surprised if I kept a blog for the rest of my life. I might move to a different blogging site if LJ management messed things up here horribly, though. That's why I left OpenDiary and came to LJ originally.

That is very interesting. For me, interaction is primary. I am bad at making friends in real life, so LJ has helped to take the place of that.

I will check out your blog; thanks for the link!

I do not know what my life would be without writing all the time in LiveJournal?-it is my only contact with the outside world-also LJ is the only place I can be totally me-speak from the heart and share my world with others-for me LJ has been a good experience-I do wish people would write more-but people are busy and not all LJ people are writers-it takes time maybe years to locate your own inner voice and hear it and then be able to put that inner voice into words-we need to love one another-peace

You make a good point, regarding not everyone on LJ being writers.

"LJ is the only place I can be totally me" What I found funny about this statement is that the other day I wanted to post something on facebook - but the statement was one of slight annoyance with a friend ... who happens to also be on facebook. . . . Right, so I did not post it lol. I really just wanted a two second vent and can't even recall what it was about now. What I recall the most was thinking that 'if I post this ppl who know the situation will know who/what I am talking about and might take it badly which is A-not my intent and B-could be more of a problem then it's worth and may unintentionally hurt feelings. This would be the draw back to FaceBook which LJ does not have - at least not for me since with a few exceptions most of my lj friends are not ppl that I interact with daily and in fact many I do not know in person at all.
