(Goes along with storyline I'm working on for her sister Evie. Not posting the other stuff here. If you want to see Evie's stuff, just let me know.)
Lani hung up the phone and shook her head. She wanted desperately to smack some sense into her youngest sister. All the things Evie had put their parents through, put the family through. And here she was again, moving in with some guy she barely knew. This time she wasn't even in Hawaii.
She'd spent weeks trying to call Evie. The family was worried. Evie wasn't telling anyone much of anything. Not different for her. Lani also knew that of everyone, Evie was likely to tell her the least of all. They weren't exactly close. Not like they had been when Evie was young. Even when Evie was older and they fought more - battled their views more. They were still close to a point. But that had pretty much ended with
Dougie. Evie denied it, but Lani knew resentment when she saw it.
It wasn't her fault. It's all she wanted to tell her baby sister over and over. It wasn't her fault.
The front door flew open and slammed shut. Lani jumped and looked up as
Evie stormed into the kitchen. She was red and pissed. "Who the hell do you think you are?"
"Evie.."
"No! You're-..you're not God, Lani! And..and.." Evie was shaking in her anger and couldn't find her words.
"Evie."
"No! Go to hell!" Evie started to run out to the front door but Lani went after her.
"I had no choice. He's...he's not a good guy. I was doing my job..I arrested him. When are you going-"
Evie spun around. "He's a great guy and you know nothing. Nothing!"
"He's a drug dealer! How is that even close to being a good guy?" Lani had finally lost it and yelled back.
"He's not perfect, but...he was not..this has nothing to do with what I feel. It's the fact that he was with me that night! I told you he was!"
"And..other people told us otherwise," Lani crossed her arms.
"Right. Believe some dumbass party kids over your own sister," Evie said dryly.
"My sister..who's also a dumbass party kid, living with a drug dealer."
The women stared each other down and Evie dropped her eyes after a moment. "Fuck you," she whispered harshly, before finally leaving.
