So my step-mother posted recently on facebook "If anyone still doubts that the advancement of LGBT 'rights' will always come in direct conflict with religious rights, they need only read Quebec's new policy against homophobia. Scary stuff for the new year."
Which was her response to this document
http://www.justice.gouv.qc.ca/english/publications/rapports/pdf/homophobie-a.pdf My response was this "I can say that we both agree that diminishing fear and hatred of those who are harmlessly or even positively different than us impedes perhaps religion in action but not most religious values. The exact same attitude and excuse was on display when slavery was abolished. I just read the entire policy page for page and nothing was said about churches not being able to preach about the 'sin' of homosexuality. A number of religious people are OK with a theocratic government until it isn't their religion that's in control. Freedom of religion conversely entails freedom from religion and that should be even more valued by the religious that the atheist. Also, the fetishization of childbirth in cultures that can't take care of their current populations is a destructive impulse."
Felt good but will do absolutely nothing. Her approval or disapproval matters very little to me so it was worth it.
